Dundee United 0-1 Rangers: Tom Lawrence’s early strike sees Gers to Scottish Premiership victory

In the Scottish Premiership, Rangers defeated Dundee United 1-0 thanks to an early goal from Tom Lawrence, moving them up to third position.

Before the international break, Philippe Clement’s team lost 3-0 to Old Firm rivals Celtic, and the pressure was on to respond, and there was one right away.

Rangers continued to pepper the Dundee United area, but there was a somewhat controversial end to the first half. Emmanuel Adegboyega made a forceful challenge on Connor Barron, catching his foot, but only received a yellow card.

VAR did review the on-field decision, but stuck with referee Don Robertson’s decision. It was perhaps not a surprise that Adegboyega was replaced at half-time, with Rangers also handing a debut to Deadline Day signing Nedim Bajrami.

Despite not having any attempts on goal during the match, United showed improvement in the second half and had a chance to tie the score in the 55th minute. But Kristijan Trapanovski’s attempt went wide.

Lawrence came close twice more, but at Tannadice, it was his early goal that settled the match. Rangers go up on Dundee United, although they still behind Celtic by five points. The team led by Jim Goodwin drops to fourth place after suffering their first Scottish Premiership defeat of the year.
