On Tuesday, Patty Gasso bolstered her infield by adding some vital experience. Former BYU shortstop Ailana Agbayani revealed her commitment to the Sooners through an Instagram post.
Last season, Agbayani, who is now a sophomore, also stepped in as a pitcher for the Cougars when needed.
In 2024, Agbayani led the Cougars with an impressive .424 batting average. She drew 30 walks and finished the season with a strong .534 on-base percentage. A constant threat on the bases, she racked up nine doubles, two triples, and five home runs while successfully stealing 12 bases out of 15 attempts.
As a pitcher, the right-hander logged 23 innings and posted a 5.78 ERA.
Agbayani is no stranger to Love’s Field, where she led BYU to a victory over Oklahoma on April 12. In that game, she went 4-for-5 at the plate, driving in two RBIs to help secure the upset against the Sooners.
Agbayani is Gasso’s third transfer portal addition, joining former North Carolina catcher Isabela Emerling and former Utah outfielder Abby Dayton.
The Sooners have two remaining spots to fill via the portal, with both expected to go to pitchers.
